"What is truth?" Pilate asks. The Word that thundered through the void and brought the universe into being stands silent, yet we can still hear the reply: I am the Way. I am the Truth.
So often in this scene Jesus recedes into the shadows and the focus is on Pilate. The entire scene changes considerably when you insert as Jesus's response the words from John. I can imagine Jesus saying to himself in response to Pilate's question. "I've told you. I am the truth."

ReplyDeleteproof that blog posts need not be long.
ReplyDeleteRobin, Welcome to my Ignatian imagination! I can even hear the emphasis I am the Way. I am the Truth. In my very being, not just in what I say.
ReplyDeleteAnd Stratoz, this post is infinitely longer than your Wednesday postings!
