Discerning thoughts

[Michelle is on retreat, but thanks to Blogger's scheduled post feature, is still inhabiting this virtual space.]

Over the last year several people have suggested that I might start to think about putting together a collection of the columns I've written for the Catholic Standard and Times. I started taking it more seriously when someone who routinely (relentlessly?!) rags on me about having too much on my plate suggested it. Take on a new project?

When in the midst of a discernment, Patient Spiritual Director wisely advises, look to the wisdom of those who know you best. If you come here to read, you would be among those who know me best as a writer, so I seek your wisdom. What advice would you have for me on such a project? I put a poll up in the sidebar if you just want to give a quick thumbs up or thumbs down, but I would welcome comments as well.

Meanwhile, I'm (hopefully) doing some discerning of my own on the edge of the Immense.

  1. The only reason I voted "Maybe" is because I DO read them here...They are always a delight, often thought provoking, sometimes reassuring in their confirmation that I'm not alone in my foibles...I'd go for it, if I were you. The work of creating is already done, after all.

  2. One thing I know about writing is that once you decide to go into that creative space there is often a whole
"other" energy that is seeking a voice.

I would encourage you to take on this project for two reasons: One, it would be lovely to read the columns collected, and to be able to pass them on to others who are not as comfortable with blog-reading as I am. You are able to discern a point and open it up with your thoughts, without nailing it down and resolving it. I find that very helpful!

And second, I would love to see what else is lurking and might find a voice as you move into a book-project!

Granted, I'm a fan ... but I am also a woman who reads a lot, who relishes the musings and insights of others, and who deeply appreciates the willingness of fellow travelers to put their pen to paper!
